The Cupar and District Pipe Band holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Cupar. We bring music, joy and energy to local Cupar events, and represent the diversity of our community.
We are inclusive of all ages, abilities and backgrounds, welcoming and encouraging anyone who shares our passion and interest in the pipes and drums and our pride in our rich Scottish heritage. We are funded through the sponsorship of Caring for Cupar, community donations and the subscription of our membership.
We are proud to have celebrated our centenary in 2020.
The band meets every Wednesday evening during term time from 6.30pm at the Age Concern Hall in Cupar KY15 5HE. During the first part of the evening our beginner and intermediate players are offered chanter and drum tutoring with our music tutors and experienced band members. This is followed by separate chanter and drum practices where we run through our repertoire, and we finish off the night together with a collective band practice on pipes and drums.
Beginners are provided with tutor books and sheet music and we have practice chanters, drum pads and sticks available for purchase at cost price.
Most of our members have been loyal to the band for many years, and in some cases decades!
The band enjoys regular engagements where we have the opportunity to perform and spend time together. We like to involve even our newest and youngest members in whatever capacity they can manage. There is no pressure to attend all the engagements, just do what you can. Fun is guaranteed and ice cream frequently features!
